Kobe Bryant Dies in a Helicopter Crash

Postby ForeverFlameFan » Sun Jan 26, 2020 1:47 pm

Just had another baby in June, and was only 41.

That is just terrible.

Happened the night that Lebron James passed him (#4 to #3) on the NBA all time scoring list.

I'm not a basketball fan. At all. So maybe somebody who is can help me understand this. The guy is an admitted adulterer and accused and possible rapist. Why are people talking about him in hushed voic3s likes he's some kind of god? What am I missing here? It's a tragic accident for sure. But why is Bryant being given the god treatment?

I think it's because Bryant owned up to his mistake from the past and has been a great human being ever since. Never hopped teams, just won championships in LA with what he was given. He was one of the most clutch NBA performers in every facet of the game. He has multiple championships, multiple gold medals, and other accolades. He was also a pretty good father to his 4 daughters and now only got to really live the life before retirement. It's tragic, and as a huge sports fanatic who absolutely despised him because of him always stumping the Utah Jazz (my favorite team), he will definitely be missed. Just died too soon with the life he had ahead of him post-NBA.

Dunno. I don’t follow basketball much but I did follow that alleged rape case a little. It was a pretty shady incident and I dont understand how the guy can be deified the way he is now after something like that. Seems like he’s been given a Get Out Of Jail Free card just because he’s a sports celeb.

The incident was definitely a tragedy for all involved but I think the way he’s being sanctified is out of line with reality.

I’m with you Ford, the rape case is what I remember too...and that he bought his wife a 250k ring after. He did seem to change drastically after that though and seem to grow up. He was quite philanthropist and was by all accounts a great father. It could just be the culture where basketball and music go together where he looks a lot more grounded than guys who seem to go around living the thug life with one foot still in the street gang.

He’s not alone. Tiger Woods is also given god like status and he was a giant womanizer. That might be a societal comment. You can do that sort of thing and people will forgive and forget...just don’t ever take a knee during the anthem or you’ll be nailed to a cross.

Back to Kobe, here’s my conspiracy theory. If he wasn’t such a celeb, that helicopter would never have taken off. Had he just been some rich guy who booked it the weather would have grounded them and the pilot would have said sorry. Because it was Kobe the pilot (and air traffic control) made extra effort to get him where he needed to go.

Kobe owned up to an affair. He did not own up to a rape and there was physical evidence of one. I think he paid people off to make it go away.

Tiger is a womanizing whore. But he was never accused of rape.

One thing I think is sad is when a popular celebrity gets accused of such things, people attack the accusers. It happened with Kobe, Cosby, Jaimus Winston (Bucs QB), Weinstein, etc. There is this horrible thing humans do to justify their admiration for a potentially BAD person by attacking anyone who says this guy might be bad.

Sickens me.

Yeah, it's all part of the cult of celebrity worship.

It’s taken me this long to finally realize what the 24 and 8 represented. I knew 24 was his number but I didn’t know the 8 represented the others who died until I read what The Jackets did for the anthem and they spelled it out. This is another thing in celebrity culture which irks me. It’s always for the known celeb and not regular joe. I felt some reports did a good job of trying to balance mentioning the others by name but this is all about Kobe and not about the other families and what they could have accomplished. It’s all equally sad.

That is a coincidence. Kobe started his career as number 8 and then changed it in 2006 to #24. The Lakers retired BOTH numbers. It has nothing to do with the number of victims.

See, that’s what I thought at first, he was 8...but then he was 24...and I read the tweet from the Jackets about the 8 being the other 8 people....oh well.

Interesting article https://www.latimes.com/california/stor ... ors-legacy

When Shirley Alvarado del Aguila got to work on Jan. 27, she told colleagues she didn’t want to talk about Kobe Bryant, who had died the day before in a fiery helicopter crash, along with his 13-year-old daughter and seven others.

She was frustrated that the basketball star was being lionized by a public that seemed to forget he’d been arrested and accused of rape in 2003. She works for an organization that serves rape and domestic violence survivors, and she was angry that people who brought the subject up were being attacked online. So she deactivated her social media accounts.

I second that. Do the crime, do the time. The hell with your money, status or popularity.
